Teaching Philosophy

"Playing music as a professional performer is a wonderful experience however passing on this knowledge and art of expression is equally satisfying. As a teacher, I find myself learning about my own playing whilst also being privileged to see the rewards of a student and their hard work. A great teacher teaches their student to think for themselves, to analyse problems and find solutions for a variety of situations. They inspire their students to focus on the experience of learning, the magic of understanding and using what they have learnt in music and beyond. Music to me is as much a spiritual discipline as a practical one, often akin to martial arts. Music provides a place of refuge, inner-peace and a unique voice to all those that give all of themselves to it."
