Music education needs to be holistic and at KB we endeavour to create opportunities for our students to engage with  music education outside the classroom. Learning can happen anywhere, and lets be honest we all can do with a little bit more inspiration!

Joshua Clarke

Joshua Clarke holds the position of Principal Trumpet and Section Leader in the Opera Australia Orchestra, having first joined the Orchestra in 2008. Starting his musical studies at the age of nine, Joshua, under the tutelage of Gordon Webb, Daniel Williams and Daniel Mendelow, went on to complete a Bachelor of Music and Graduate Diploma of Music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and Australian National University.

A memorable moment from the pit - from a particular Maestro, "Trumpets...please...you are still playing too loud". From the trumpet section, "um..Maestro...we weren't playing".

It was such a great day learning about what Josh does and we all gain a better understanding of how a trumpet works. I think we are all inspired to practice our scales now! It's quite amazing how the combination of 3 keys can give you a full range of harmonics!

Kevin Man

Kevin Man holds the position of Associate Principal Percussion in the Opera Australia Orchestra having first joined the Orchestra in 2016. Kevin started his musical studies at the age of eleven and, under the tutelage of Richard Miller, went on to complete a Bachelor of Music (Hons) at Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Fun fact: Kevin bakes treats for the orchestra on opening night!

It was such a great day learning about the role of the percussionist in an orchestra. Kevin was amazing with all the little ones at the workshop! It was very interesting to see what sheet music looks like for a percussionist. We also learned the piano is actually a percussion instrument.
